RUBBER-CORD CASINGS (PNEUMATIC PLUGS) for EFFICIENT SHUTOFF of INTERNAL CAVITIES in OIL PIPELINES and OIL-PRODUCTS PIPELINES
Rubber-cord casings (pneumatic plugs) serve for temporary shutoff of an internal cavity of an oil pipeline or oil-products pipeline emptied from oil or oil-products, for the purpose of prevention of going out of explosive and combustible oil gases, at damage control carried out by “cutting out of a coil or a defect section” method, on a linear portion of trunk and industrial oil and oil-products pipelines, pipelines of oil-transfer plants.
Fig. 1. Rubber-cord casings (pneumatic plugs)
Rubber-cord casings (pneumatic plugs) are capable of solving the following problems
- input through the open ends of a pipe formed after cutting out of a coil or a defective section of an oil and oil-products pipeline;
- hermetic sealing of an internal cavity of an oil and oil-products pipeline at the expense of compressed air (inert gas) admission into the casing from an external source;
- holdback of static pressure of oil-products or explosive and combustible gases in carrying out of damage control.
The basic characteristics of casings are given in Table 1, the installation setup in pipelines is shown in Fig. 2. Rubber-cord casings are used at the ambient temperature, in °С, from minus 30 to plus 90. Rubber-cord casings are produced according to the TU 2527-001-23770232-2003 specification.
Long time rubber-cord casings operation has shown their high strength, durability, convenience in work. The warranty storage period of a casing, starting from the date of production, is 5 years. The manufacturer guarantees a leak-free single shutoff of an oil and oil-products pipelines cavity for the term up to 48 hours.
Application of hydraulic locks for shutoff and cleaning of sewer, water and heat networks in the pipelines transporting oil and oil-products is forbidden!
