Rubber-cord compensatory branch pipe-valves serve to decrease the level of vibration and noise, to shutoff pipelines, and also to provide for compensation of assembly, temperature and working displacements of pipelines being connected. Their main feature is simplicity of design, reliability and durability in operation; they can be used in water-supply and sewer plants, and also for shutoff of strongly polluted and aggressive environments in chemical, mining, metallurgical and a pulp and paper industry.

These branch pipes have no rubbing and wearing details, are not subject to corrosion and sediment on surfaces contacting with a liquid. The design of branch pipe-valves completely excludes leaks of a transferred liquid which take place, for example, at wearing-out of ordinary valves.

In Fig. 1 the basic dimensional and connecting sizes of the offered rubber-cord elastic elements of branch pipe-valves are given.

A rubber-cord compensatory branch pipe-valve contains a rubber-cord elastic element 1 reinforced by a high-strength caprone cord, flanges 2 which are connected to flanges 3 of the pipeline by means of clamping flanges 4 and screws 5, and also by the pinching device containing a bottom traverse 7 and top traverse 8, connected to lateral racks 9, the screw-bolt 10 with the handle 11, pinching strap 12.
Flanges 2 of branch pipe-valves are made elastic enough which allows to make installation of branch pipes by means of solid (not cut) clamping flanges 4.

The pinching device is demountable (can be installed and demounted if necessary) and is fixed by means of arms 6 and screw-bolts 5 to one of the pipeline flanges (it is desirable that this be made from outside the pump).

In case of need to shut off a fluid flow, the handle 11 is used to rotate the screw-bolt 10 on the end of which a pinching strap 12 is mounted which pinches the elastic element 1 of the branch pipe-valve. Rotation of the screw-bolt 10 in the opposite direction releases the branch pipe, and the liquid stream begins its free movement through the branch pipe.

As the pinching device is demountable it can be used for shutting off several elastic elements of branch pipe-valves which considerably reduces the cost of the whole appliance.

All rubber-cord branch pipe-valves are reinforced by a high-strength caprone cord and have not less than threefold safety factor as to the failure pressure.

The angle of arrangement of the cord’s reinforcing threads is chosen of such a value that at admission of pressure branch pipe-valves are thrustless, i.e. exert no force action on the pipelines being connected.

Lengths of the elastic elements of branch pipe-valves (size L, Fig. 1) correspond to lengths of standard valves and consequently branch pipe-valves can be installed instead of valves, for their repair including.

At the customer’s demand, necessary versions of branch pipes, both in their geometrical sizes, and properties of rubber can be produced.

By special order, branch pipe-valves working with environments where temperature exceeds 100° С can be produced.

The design of compensatory branch pipe-valve is patented.
