Fenders are products that are used to protect ships and boats from striking the pier and other watercrafts while mooring or hauling. Mooring fenders are designed to absorb the impact of the ship's hull against the mooring devices or against the board of another vessel during mooring, hauling, joint berthing or reloading operations. The fender serves to reduce contact loads on the ship's hull during its mooring and berthing.

Thanks to the installation of mooring fenders, the impact force is distributed over the maximum possible area of the ship's hull, which prevents deformation of the ship's side. The moving ship's energy will be spent on the deformation of the fenders and the change in their internal pressure.

Mooring fenders can be installed permanently, or be removable and used as needed. Fenders can be installed either vertically or horizontally in one or two rows. In case of permanent use, fenders are usually mounted on the bow of the stern of tugs and icebreakers, since these vessels very often have to endure various collisions. 

It is preferable to equip ordinary ships with removable fenders.

Depending on the type of collision energy conversion, fenders are divided into damping (buffering), shock-absorbing and combined. Damping mooring fenders include gas and hydraulic models, whereas shock-absorbing fenders can be pneumatic and elastic. Combined models can be hydroelastic or hydropneumatic.

Side and berth fenders

Fenders can be removable or permanent (fixed on the ship's hull or on the berth). Fenders used on large modern vessels are complex technical products, which may weight up to 8 tons or more.

Pneumatic fenders are the most effective shock-absorbing device when mooring ships to each other or to a berth.

Sibrezinotekhnika pneumatic rubber-cord fenders perform two important functions:

— allow avoiding high pressure on the ship's hull during mooring, and at the same time effectively absorb the kinetic energy of the moving ship;

— the large contact surface area of the pneumatic fender provides lower reaction forces than any other system, including all-rubber and foam-filled bumpers.

The fender shell consists of a sealing chamber, a multilayer power cord frame and a protective cover rubber layer.

Sibrezinotekhnika pneumatic rubber-cord fenders are made of 100% synthetic tire cord and have tire-and-chain strapping from used car tires connected by a network of horizontal and vertical chains. This reinforced fender design provides additional protection of the fender shell from mechanical damage.

Transportation and storage

  • Pneumatic fenders can be shipped by all types of transport in accordance with the rules for the carriage of goods in force for this type of transport.­ Pneumatic fenders should not be subjected to mechanical damage.­
  • Pneumatic fenders should be stored in closed dark rooms with ambient temperature from minus 50 to plus 50ºC and air humidity of max 80% at a distance of at least 2 m from various types of heat-radiating sources.­ Storage of fenders in several tiers is prohibited.
  • During storage, do not allow contamination of the fenders with fuels and lubricants, acids, alkalis and other chemicals that have a destructive effect on rubber.­­ Fenders must be protected from direct sunlight during storage.­
  • Do not subject fenders to pressure or allow sharp objects to touch fenders, as this could compromise the tightness.­
  • Do not store fenders under working pressure. During storage, it is necessary to reduce the air pressure in the fender shell to 0.2 atm.
  • Do not leave fenders on the water in winter.

To ensure greater corrosion resistance, the chains are galvanized, and rubber hoses are put on the chains to prevent abrasive damage to the outer surface of the fenders.

Flanges with eyelets for securing to shipboard or mooring wall are mounted on the ends of the fender. Threaded holes are provided in the flanges. On one side, there is a compressed air unit for pressure control, on the other side, there is a safety valve, which trips in case of overpressure in the fender shell.

The estimated service life, subject to the consumer's compliance with the operating and storage conditions, is 5 years.­

The warranty period of storage of pneumatic fenders is 3 years from the date of product purchase.

Delivery of production is carried out to any point of Russia, the near and far abroad, the following transport companies: "zheldorekspeditsiya", "Autotrading", "Sherl TK", "RATEK", "Energy", "Business Lines".

Shipment of production is made after receipt of an advance payment in the following terms:

  • road transport — 3 workday;
  • air transport — 3 workday;
  • railway baggage — 3 workday;
  • railway container — 7 workday;

If customs clearance is necessary, the shipment period is increased by 2-3 working days.
